Marion LoGuidice

Show Description

"She unravels into her full potential as an artist with exceptional vision. Marion's wildly poetic lyrics and arresting voice are truly heart-stopping, she takes experience and spins it into song-stories that resonate on many levels."
- Cyndi Lauper

Singer/Songwriter Marion LoGuidice delivers incantatory lyrics with both with delicacy and power. "Kate Bush but more grounded in the real world," LoGuidice creates an unusual sound -- accessible pop that suddenly "takes left turns into Grimm-dark musical woods," and delivers magic, depth, soul; an archetypal play on the spirit that leaves you filled with hope and gratitude. Moments of shamanic joy mixed with guttural depth, her songs are urgent, passionate, and well-worth the journey. Tonight she celebrates the release of her latest CD, God's House.

Mother Wheel offers an deep look into her heart and soul. Marions compelling voice goes from a wail to a whisper, delivering stories bursting with a naked emotional power that’s almost too real to bear. Her first class backing band guitarist Larry Saltzman (Simon and Garfunkel, Bette Midler, Jewel,) bassist Jeff Allen (David Johansen’s Harry Smiths,) drummer Joe Bonadio, (David Sanborn) provides subtle support that keeps the spotlight firmly on her remarkable vocal ability and poetic lyrics.

LoGuidice has only been performing for 18 months, but in that time she’s built up a large and fiercely loyal following. Leonard Cohen and Laura Nyro, and the dramatic performances of Sinead O’Conner were early touchstones, but the idea of performing was never something LoGuidice considered, at least consciously. “In my 20s I piled up a lot of half written poems and songs, and in my 30s I was teaching yoga and doing a lot of self-exploration.” Her yoga training led LoGuidice to create a Moondance Circle for women, to rekindle the flame of creativity that we all tend to ignore or cast aside. One night while channel surfing, she came upon an older woman playing a guitar and singing. “The song was so powerful, I realized I had to start writing songs and performing.”

Two years ago, LoGuidice began writing songs and working with producer Tony Conniff. As the music evolved, the idea of performance took root. LoGuidice booked a show at a small east side club; despite one of NYC’s worst snowstorms in years, the place was packed. Cyndi Lauper showed up, as did composer Jeanine Tesori (Caroline, Or Change, Thoroughly Modern Millie) who helped get LoGuidice booked into Joe’s Pub, at The Public Theater, where she’s been playing to sold out audiences for the past year.

“I’m an older woman and I speak as an older woman. In my life I’m 50% real and 50% BS. On stage I’m naked, completely honest, and the people that appeals to, those who want to live in the light of their own truth, get turned on by it.” In her own words, Marion LoGuidice is “as young as tomorrow, and as old as yesterday,” an artist that fearlessly explores our deepest joys and sorrows in her effort to get to the heart of the mysteries that make us all human.

"Now - rather than focusing on writing the song that would move me - I am more interested in becoming the person that would write the song that would move me."

I was beginning to doubt the richness and authenticity of music, that was until I listened to Marion's mucic. Some of the absolute best music my fiance and I have listened to in a long while. We appreciate her soul/rock infused voice.Where have all the true performers gone? In short... Marion ROCKS!!!
